HOW Strong was Indian
cultural bondage ?
“ I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such high caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very back bone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and therefore , I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will loose their self esteem, their native self culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation”
Lord McCauley in his speech of February 2, 1835, in the British Parliament.
It is apparent from the above statement Of Lord McCauley, that India was very strongly bonded spiritually and culturally as late as 1835. People of India though could not get the so called modern education, yet they were of high caliber and had high moral values. Our spiritual and cultural heritage was so strong that even British then found it difficult to break. All these were only because of our strong and vibrant ancient education system and our unbroken followed culture.
Why we should think that all that foreign and English is good and greater than own to loose our self esteem in the bargain ? Why should we allow to loose our native culture? Why we should get dominated by other culture when we know that we are strongly bonded in our own culture which is time tested and with stood all cultural hostility ? Why are we silent on us becoming slave to the western culture? Is there anything wrong in our DNA that we become mute spectator to all the wrong things happening in front of our own eyes ?
Awake Indians please awake. It is time.
