He narrated the incident of Master Santosh Kumar who was killed in the recent bomb blast in Mehrauli in Delhi, last month while trying to return the bag dropped by the bike bound terrorists, presuming that they are unaware of the bag. He also mentioned there are many mothers in the country who have lost innocent children because of lack of Human Values in the society. He expressed that this book is dedicated to all those children who have lost their lives in similar kind of incidents. Mentioning Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanaa’s concern over diminishing human values in our country and particularly in Delhi, Col. Kini said, the book on Human Value “A Voyage from “I” to “We” is the first step towards creating an enlightened society in India. He said, Value Based Education is must to every child going to the school and every child also must know what is right and what is wrong.

Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna thanked Faith Foundation India and the authors for presenting him the first copy of the book released by eminent scientist and Hon’ble Member of Parliament Dr. Swaminathan. He appreciated the efforts of Dr. Dewan, Col. Ashok Kini and Mr. Pradeep Nayak for the wonderful work done by them on this unique project of the book. He expressed his joy for selecting the venue of Garden of Five Senses to release the book on values which contains five important human values.

Quoting from scriptures of different religions, he said “Religions always promoted human and spiritual values in the society for living in peace and harmony”.

He said, “There are no fruits of actions of any good, if one is indulging in hurting the other and sowing the seed of hatredness. Love is important in the society to respect the human values. Referring to many poetries and poems, Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna said “One should not take away the right of others and human values needs to be promoted for betterment of human lives. Living in brotherhood and love for each other is certainly a step towards peaceful and secured society

He said, “Love everyone as only love can stop all problems in the society. when you love someone you don’t cheat him, you don’t envy him, you don’t hate him. You are truthful and honest with him and you do all the right actions towards him”. To underline this he quoted, “The Great Saint Guru Gobind Singh and Poet Buleshah”. Cheating others is a crime equivalent to Hindu killing a cow and Muslim eating pork. He said if you have belief and confidence then everything and anything is possible in life. He clearly mentioned that for all great changes the first seed needs to be sown at once own home. Elders have to change themselves and make themselves as a role model for the younger one to follow. He also quoted from gospel of Bible, ‘do earn to others as you would have them do earn to you’. . He thanked Women International Network Mrs. Udit Tiwari for organizing the show of Salam India.

Dr Swaminathan expressed his heart felt thanks to be the Chief guest to release the book on Human Values. He congratulated the authors of the book and thanked the organizers to have chosen the Garden of Five Senses for release of the book on the very special Children’s Day in a unique way. He was very happy to be amongst the gathering. He stressed on the five human values of truth, right action, peace, non violence and love which are the need of our earth for the entire country. He said the book will be a great asset to every child to carve out good character and to move on the path to become an enlightened citizen in the society.

What’s a BRAHMACHARYA?
Brahmacharya is nothing but purity in thoughts, words and deeds. What is this purity? Purity here means not succumbing to the thoughts of the mind, inducement of speech and force of action. Brahmacharya also includes control of the reproductive organs and in broad sense control of all sensual organs. Character is the power of controlled sensual organs hence character building is done through the practice of Brahmacharya. It is also essential for success in material and spiritual life. Without it, one is unfit to be on the path of spirituality or worldly activities. We can also define Brahmacharya as vow of celibacy in thoughts, words and deeds.
Why I am writing this ? In what contest it has relation to our culture?
I remember the words of Shankara
“ Bala chaval krida saktha, Tharuna chaval tharuni saktha”
It is but normal that as child likes to play, a boy wants to be close to a girl.
“Achara paramo dhrama” It is the conduct which is first and foremost duty of a human.
Control of body and control of mind from evil thoughts are the essence of Brhamacharya. It is very difficult to control the mind than the body. But once you decide to do it the path opens up for you.
Sensual pleasures seeking draws a man to a woman, a boy to a girl or vice versa. What is the importance of marriage in our society? What is the importance of keeping the Brahmacharya? Do we need to have freedom from lust in thoughts ,words and deeds before marriage?
Yes the word Brahmacharya is evolved with that sense to make the one, perfect like a Brahma with pure thoughts pure words and pure deeds.

HOW Strong was Indian
cultural bondage ?
“ I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such high caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very back bone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and therefore , I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will loose their self esteem, their native self culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation”
Lord McCauley in his speech of February 2, 1835, in the British Parliament.
It is apparent from the above statement Of Lord McCauley, that India was very strongly bonded spiritually and culturally as late as 1835. People of India though could not get the so called modern education, yet they were of high caliber and had high moral values. Our spiritual and cultural heritage was so strong that even British then found it difficult to break. All these were only because of our strong and vibrant ancient education system and our unbroken followed culture.
Why we should think that all that foreign and English is good and greater than own to loose our self esteem in the bargain ? Why should we allow to loose our native culture? Why we should get dominated by other culture when we know that we are strongly bonded in our own culture which is time tested and with stood all cultural hostility ? Why are we silent on us becoming slave to the western culture? Is there anything wrong in our DNA that we become mute spectator to all the wrong things happening in front of our own eyes ?
Awake Indians please awake. It is time.
“Hum laye hain thufan se kishti nikalke
Is desh ko rakhna mere bacho sambal ke”

A Miracle - Divine Presence

A Miracle – Dr Padmasubrahmanyam on her informal chat with Lt. Col. Ashok Kini

My dance performance at New Delhi on September 10, 2003 at Kamani Auditorium was a memorial programme for the great Kathak Maestro, Pandit Durgalal. On 15th September, I had the honor of meeting the President of India to request him to participate in the Birth Centenary Celebratins of my father Director K. Subrahmanyam to be held in Chennai in April 2004. My eldest brother Balakrishnan, the Managing Trustee of Director K. Subrahmanyam Memorial Trust and his son Kannan who is my colleague in the Trust Board were with me.

As we were in the office of Lt. Col. Ashok Kini (Comptroller) for fifteen minutes before the President’s appointment, he spontaneously congratulated me for my performance on 10th. We were quite surprised, as we thought that he could not attend the concert. In fact, the seat we had kept for him was un-occupied. In his own characteristic style, he had come quietly and taken a seat in the 8th or 9th row and enjoyed the show in full.

After congratulating, he said that he almost went into a trance, the moment I started the programme with “Argala Stotra” (the preliminary prayer for reciting “Devi Mahatmiyam”, consisting of 700 verses). As we were well aware of his rather silent background of mystic experiences, I was not too surprised at this reaction But what followed was something which stunned all of us. Very casually, Sri Ashok Kini said he saw mw on the stage, wearing a particular kind of long necklace, which in fact I was not wearing. His vivid description of the ornament on me was close to what I had offered to Goddess Kamakshi at Kanchipuram almost two decades ago, through the Divinity in human form, Pujyasri Mahaswami, the Centanarian Saint of Kanchi Kamakoti Pitam, who occupied that spiritual throne as the 68th Sankaracharya.

It was my ardent wish at that time to make a pendant with a large single Green Jade stone for Goddess Kamakshi. The inspiration was from seeing such an invaluable pendant on Goddess Kamakshi at Kollur. When I went to Canada, I bought a palm size single green stone in the shape of a maple leaf (the national tree of Canada). On my way back, I had some concerts in Dubai, where I wanted to buy gold just enough to set the gem. My admirers there wanted to join me and contribute for that jewel. This made it possible to have three rows of pearls and other gems for the pendant with some additional gold. Finally it became a unique beautiful long necklace for the Universal Mother. I went to Kanchipuram and left the jewel with the Motherly Saint with a devotional request to Him to adorn Kamakshi Amba with that ornament by his holy hands, at His convenience. I had no desire to be even present for that event. I prayed for the sake of all who joined in this effort. We drove back to Chennai that night.

Nest early morning, there was a call from Kanchi Matam, informing that Pujya Mahaswami was asking us to reach there the same evening. We came to know that he had initially decided to go to the Kamakshi Temple at 5-00 AM and as the entire retinue was ready, he suddenly changed his mind and asked them to send the message to us. As he was observing silence, he had shown hand gestures to mention my name i.e., showing Lotus for Padma, followed by “Vel” (spear) for Subrahmanyam. We reached Kanchipuram in the evening and walked behind the Saint towards the temple. He did not enter the temple, but went into a street house in the Sannadhi Street (not far from the Gopuram) and sat in the front veranda We did not understand what was happening. It was Vijayadasami Day and we could recognize the Lalitha Sahasranamam book in his hands. It was amusing, because, he does not at all need the book; it was probably meant for us to understand that he was chanting the 1000 names of the Mother. The timing was unbelievably precise and perfect. As he left the book down, Goddess Kamakshi was brought form the temple right in front of that house. There was the traditional Nadaswaram band with all the prarphernalia of the procession with scores of devotees.

The Mahaswami gracefully got up, went out with his “yoga danda” and stood still, right in front of the deity, with his unique (laser beam ?) look. That exact times seems to have got frozen in my mind’s eye. After that “stillness”,  he beckoned us to come near him. He took the jewel from the box and placed it around Mother’s neck most dainitfully by his right hand thumb, middle and left fingers. It got settled on the slot, as though the length was pre-measured. Then he stood still again, touching the jewel with the tip of his Yoga Danda, After a few seconds, he gave a merciful gracious glance at me and also showed the sign of blessing through his hand gesture.

When I finished narrating this episode, Lt. Col. Ashok Kini had horipulation; for, the jewel he saw on me on the stage, was akin to that which was offered to Goddess Kamakshi two decades ago. I swore that I was wearing only a ruby studded traditional mango shaped “kundhan” jewel and not the green one with pearls that he had so surely visualized. It was another occasion for us to realize that there are things which are beyond normal human rationale. The links are too mystic in nature, that we decided to accept it with devotional humility as an unforgettable enjoyable experience beyond words. The presence of our Universal Mother and Universal Guru needs self experience and not mere verbal description; for, sweetness has to only tasted and explained.

Sri Ashok Kini is surely a blessed child of the Supreme Mother.

BRAHMGYAN - SANDHYAVANDAN

BRAHMGYAN - SANDHYAVANDAN

Acquiring Brahmgyan is the aim of every human being. And the easy way to achieve this is Sandhyavandan. The best time to perform this Sandhyavandan is during cusp period, either 5 times a day or 3 times a day. If one does the Sandhyavandan, in 14 years one can get attuned to Brahmgyan. Other benefit which comes to us by doing Sandyavandan is washing off our sins of previous births and to lead a meaningful, fruitful and blissful enlightened life. In other words, to get divinized. Nowadays, the new generation is running along with the time or thinking ahead of the time. This will lead them nowhere, except for creating a desire of unbound success, which if not achieved would be disastrous for their lives. They don’t find time to understand the need for Sandhyavandan and other related rituals connected with it. To win over the time, one has to enter into the time. To enter into the time, one must understand the time. To understand the time, one has to be with the time. And to be with the time, one has to synchronize one’s breath with the time. In simpler words, we perform Pranayam and Japa i.e. chanting of divine Mantras either given by the Masters (enlightened ones) or Mantras which praises the Celestial Beings.

If you are an Indian born, you are lucky that your system will get attuned to the Divine vibrations very fast than others because the Panchabhootas of your physiology are from the Divine land of Bharata which is reverberating Divine influence since time immemorial. The reason for this is that our Panchabhootas are consisting of the vibrations of many enlightened bodies. So it is easy for one to search for other end of Divinity when you have one end in your hand. What I mean to say is that you are required to get only attuned to Divine Consciousness (Paramatma).

All our actions come from our thoughts. And our thoughts are influenced by the movements of the planets which are close to earth. So performing Sandhyavandan and thus praising the Celestial Beings makes one with pure thoughts and pure actions. In other words, one performs good deeds.

There is no use of doing Sandhyavandan if a person has unclean body and bad thoughts. Hence it is very important that cleanliness of the body and the mind be given utmost importance.

Sandhyavandan purifies the inner body and the soul and increases the inner power and robust mental health which ultimately allows one to concentrate onto the Divine. Pranayama will improve the health and increase the lifespan by keeping the body balanced. A person who performs Sandhyavandan regularly shows more love and affection to fellow human beings.

Whether you are a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist or Jain, remember the one God with one Faith and perform the Panchakaal or the Trikaal Sandhyavandan with full devotion. This will undoubtedly increase the self confidence and will help one to lead one’s life peacefully and with contentment so that one can live in harmony with the family. When there is harmony in the family, there is order in the nation. And when there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.

Jai Jai Gyan.
